Message from Superintendent Tim Mains – Virtual learning changes in video; PBE students recreate art

Dear Pine Bush parents and staff,

As you all should know, we are in day two of our redesigned plan for Virtual Learning. To augment the booklet that describes the changes, one of our middle school teachers, Katie Green, made a short, five-minute video that highlights the changes that, in particular, affect our secondary students – the kids in middle school and high school. Although she made it originally for her own students, we thought it was so good, we shared it with all of our secondary teachers, and we’ve also posted it on our website. You can find it under the “Resources for Parents” portion of the coronavirus page (the page you go to by clicking on the school bus windshield) as well as in the alert bar at the top of the website. It does a really nice job of explaining the changes, and we encourage you to watch it.

Earlier today I got the chance to see how fourth and fifth graders from Pine Bush Elementary School responded to the Getty Challenge. The Getty Challenge invites people to recreate a work of art from things they have at home. Art teacher Patrice Butler invited fourth graders to pick an artwork from the Metropolitan Museum of Art and fifth graders were invited to pick one form the Getty Museum. Kids also had the latitude to pick a piece outside of those parameters, and I have to say the submissions she received were quite creative. Some samples of her students’ efforts are posted as a slide show on the PBE page of our website. I invite you to check that out as well.

I have been trying to monitor the daily briefings by both the governor and president. I’m hoping that sometime soon we might get better direction about what the future holds in store. Until that happens, we will take each day as it comes, and we will do our best to keep our distance from other people and avoid going out at all, when we can.  Until tomorrow . . .

Good night, and good luck!
