Good evening,
Given the current circumstances, we know that many people may be unemployed because of the coronavirus pandemic and the protracted shutdown of so many businesses. We want to make sure that every family knows that if your household income has been affected, then you may qualify for reduced price meals through the National School Meal Program.
You can submit an online meal application at www.myschoolapps.com or call the school nutrition department at (845) 744-2031 ext. 2809 for further assistance. All information is kept strictly confidential. If you apply and are qualified, then your children would be covered for either free or reduced-price meals once we do come back into session. And that designation will last at least through next October.
To be clear – you do not need to have a free or reduced designation to get free meals during the current shut down. Those meals (breakfast and lunch) that we distribute on Tuesdays and Thursdays are available now for any kids under the age of 19. That said, if your financial condition has changed or does change in a negative way while all this is going on, if you file while you are in that bad situation, you can get the benefit when we all get to come back (which I still hope will be happening at some point before next October).
The economic impact of this current national crisis has been profound. While we can’t offer direct financial support, we can use the school lunch regulations to provide some small benefit. We wanted to make sure that any family that’s been affected knows about this important information that could ease your financial burden down the road. If we get a sudden notice to re-open, you want to be sure that affected families will be prepared. We hope this helps.
Have a great evening,
Tim Mains, Superintendent
