The Pakanasink Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support (PBIS) team introduced a special award to help improve bus behavior. It is the Boss Bus Award and was presented to Mianda “Mia” Morillo and her students on Trip #28.
“It is all about the kids,” said Morillo, who is affectionately referred to by the students as Miss Mia. “They do a great job. When they’re on my bus, they’re like my children.”
Criteria for the Boss Bus includes:
- Review of bus videos – students demonstrating appropriate behavior
- Input from driver
- No bus referrals.
Assistant Principal Colleen Delles said Morillo has done an incredible job keeping the mood on the bus positive and calm, and holding students accountable for safe, respectful bus behavior.
Everyone on the bus got to enjoy some perks of being part of the Boss Bus, namely being the first bus to unload in the morning and taking part in a fun Boss Bus Block Party on Friday, March 17, when the award was presented.
“It’s wonderful to see our students rewarded for their good behavior,” said Tim Mains, superintendent of Pine Bush Schools. “And Miss Mia is a tremendous asset to our district.”
Delles gave Morillo a big hug after presenting her with a special certificate to celebrate being Boss Bus and posing with her young riders. “Not only does Miss Mia set a wonderful example for our students every day,” said Delles, “she sets a fine example for all bus drivers.”
Pakanasink intends to recognize a Boss Bus each month.
