Our teachers are super heroes!

Monday kicked off Teacher Appreciation Week and boy is this week one to celebrate!

For more than a year now, our teachers have devised innovative ways to teach our students who are sitting in front of them in the classroom as well as those who are learning remotely through a computer screen.

A woman with a blue shirt and yellow cape wearing a mask stands in front of a classroom with a woman in a green dress and long blonde hair. They are talking to a computer screen where a class full of elementary students are watching.

They have been cheerleaders for students, parents and their colleagues. They have been encouraging when they themselves had to dig deep to stay positive. They have sacrificed and inspired.

The district’s Executive Director of Human Resources, Data and School Counseling, Angela Wise-Landman, visited every teacher in the district last Wednesday and Thursday, to thank them for all they do for our students and our district. At each of the schools, she was accompanied by the building principal, assistant principal or both! On behalf of the administration, she gave each a token of appreciation – a key chain declaring “Teaching is my super power.” She even wore a gold cape to bring the point home! She spoke to the students, letting them know how special their teachers are. On many occasions, the students applauded in agreement!

A man in a green short-sleeved shirt sits behind a computer and holds up his gift, a keychain that says Teaching is my super power, to his remote students who are watching. He is smiling broadly.

We all know how difficult things have been in so many aspects of our lives over the past 13 months. But our teachers have been there every step of the way: understanding, encouraging, inspiring, caring.

Our hats are off to our teachers. Know that we appreciate all that you do. You are making a huge impact. From the bottom of our hearts, we sincerely thank you.
