PAK students excel at their fire safety knowledge

Our elementary students recently celebrated fire safety week and received visits and instruction from our wonderful Pine Bush Fire Department and Circleville Fire Department volunteers. It’s been incredibly informative and the students are inquisitive and engaged.

A man in a tan baseball cap, black tshirt and tan firefighter pants stands in front of a group of third grade students, some of whom have their hands raised. Next to him is equipment from a fire fighter - a helmet, an axe, an air tank and other things. Behind him is a red fire truck.

At PAK, Lieutenant Mike Hufcut and Fire Police Captain Ginger Yanosh explained the workings of the fire department and what various pieces of equipment do. They also went over what they should do in case their house every caught fire.

A man wearing a tan baseball cap, black tshirt, and tan firefighter pants holds up a large tool that has a metal hook on th eend of it. There is a red fire-rescue truck behind him and a group of third grade students looking up at the piece of equipment.

The theme for this year’s Fire Safety Week is “Fire Won’t Wait, Plan Your Escape.” The students were very impressive in their knowledge of fire safety – having a pre-determined meeting spot out in front of the structure, sleeping with their bedroom door closed and what to do if their smoke detector goes off through the night.

A girl with a long dark braid holds a black fire helmet on her head. She is smiling and wearing a gray sweatshirt with flowers on it.

Students in grades three, four and five participated in a fire safety poster contest and the winners for each grade were presented with gift cards.
