PAK students take on the winter reading challenge!

Library Media Specialist Aubrey Zamonsky invited students from pre-K through grade 5 at Pakanasink Elementary School to participate in the winter reading challenge over the winter break.

A group of six fourth grade students sit on a colorful carpet, each holding a book. They are in a library.

Students were challenged to read for 20 minutes daily and participate in at least 10 of the reading challenges. Students could pick from more than 30 different reading tasks – like wear a hat while you read, read to a stuffed animal, read with a family member, read in a tent, etc.  All of these activities allowed families to get into the spirit of reading and see how much fun it is to read.

A group of 15 third grade students sit on a colorful carpet, each holding a book. They are in a library.

A group of 24 second grade students sit on a colorful carpet, each holding a book. They are in a library.

We had 110 students participate in this challenge!  All of the students who participated received a book of their choice to keep with a bookmark, and some hot cocoa and candy canes. The students can certainly cozy up with their book and enjoy a cup of hot cocoa at home this winter. Ms. Zamonsky’s goal is to have all of our students be lifelong readers!

A group of 17 first grade students sit on a colorful carpet, each holding a book. They are in a library.

A group of 20 kindergarten students sit on a colorful carpet, each holding a book. They are in a library.

Congratulations to all the students who participated in the winter reading challenge. Great job!
