Pine Bush Central School District and the parents of the students participating in activities, services, and programs funded by Title I, Part A of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) or through state and local sources, agree that this compact outlines how the parents, the entire district/school staff, and the students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership that will help children achieve the State’s high standards.
This school-parent compact is in effect during school year 2024-2025.
REQUIRED SCHOOL-PARENT COMPACT PROVISIONS
SCHOOL RESPONSIBILITIES
Pine Bush Central School District will:
1. Provide high-quality curriculum and instruction in a supportive and effective learning environment that enables the participating children to meet the State’s student academic achievement standards as follows:
The Pine Bush Central School District employs “highly qualified” teachers to provide classroom instruction and the Academic Intervention Services Program at the elementary and middle school levels. The elementary reading
teachers are certified reading teachers and the math teachers possess the appropriate elementary certification. The middle school math and English Language Arts teachers are certified in math and English Language Arts
respectively. Academic Intervention Services are provided during the school day at all levels.
2. Hold parent-teacher conferences (at least annually in elementary schools) during which this compact will be discussed as it relates to the individual child’s achievement.
Parent-teacher conferences, for all students K-12, are scheduled annually prior to the Thanksgiving break in November. Parents are invited to meet with the Academic Intervention Services teachers as well as classroom teachers to discuss student progress. Parents may call to arrange a parent-teacher meeting at any time during the year and are encouraged to do so.
3. Provide parents with frequent reports on their children’s progress.
Parents of students participating in the Academic Intervention Services Program will be provided with progress reports for their children every marking period upon. There are three marking periods during the school year.
4. Provide parents reasonable access to staff.
Parents may call teachers to arrange appointments at any time during the school year. These meetings may be scheduled before school, during the school day, and/or after school depending upon the teacher and parent’s
availability. There are other options available for parents to consult with teachers. Contacts may be made by telephone and e-mail. Information regarding many of our school programs is provided through the school newsletter, district newsletter, and the school and district websites.
5. Provide parents opportunities to volunteer and participate in their child’s class activities.
Parents have the opportunity to volunteer and participate in their child’s class when the need for volunteer services has been requested by the teacher. Parent volunteers must be approved by the Board of Education prior to their
participation.
PARENT RESPONSIBILITIES
We, as parents, will support our child/ren’s learning in the following ways:
- Monitoring attendance.
- Making sure that homework is completed.
- Monitoring amount of television our children watch.
- Volunteering in my child/ren’s classroom.
- Participating, as appropriate, in decisions relating to my child/ren’s education.
- Promoting positive use of my child/ren’s extracurricular time.
- Staying informed about my child/ren’s education and communicating with the school by promptly reading all notices from the school or the school district either received by my child/ren or by mail and responding, as appropriate.
- Serving, to the extent possible, on policy advisory groups, such as being the Title I, Part A parent representative on the school’s Building Leadership Team, the Title I Planning Committee, the District-wide Leadership Team, or other school advisory or policy groups.
STUDENT RESPONSIBILITIES
I, as a student, will share the responsibility to improve my academic achievement and achieve the State’s high standards. Specifically, I will:
- Do my homework daily and ask for help when I need to.
- Read at least thirty minutes every day outside of school time.
- Give to my parents or the adult who is responsible for my welfare all notices and information received by me from my school.
- Participate in class.
- Attend school unless legally excused.
