Dr. Bill Bassett has been reading to kindergarten and first-grade students for what seems like forever! Recently, though, his stop at Pine Bush Elementary School to read to a kindergarten class held special meaning to him.
This retired Pine Bush superintendent was visiting his granddaughter’s classroom! Erin Boyle, his granddaughter, is a first-year teacher here in the district, where she herself attended. Years ago, her grandpa came and read to her kindergarten class when she was a student. It was special to her then and even more special to her now that she has her own class. Education runs deep in this family. Both of Erin’s parents are educators too!
Dr. Bassett brought a few books and puppets along with him. He first read Beady the Bear, complete with a hand puppet resembling Beady. Beady left home to live like a real bear only to realize that all he really needed was right at his home.
He also read Corduroy, a story that many of the students already knew! They were engaged and excited to hear the stories from Dr. Bassett.
A big thank you to Dr. Bassett for visiting and reading to our kids. Reading is so much fun!
