Thanksgiving is a time to take stock of who we are and what is important in our lives. In Teresa Salvato’s first grade class at PBE, the students made paper turkeys that contained ‘feathers’ listing the people and things for which they are thankful. A big shout out to moms and dads – your children definitely appreciate you!
The students also learned about Native Americans and their discoveries and accomplishments. Mrs. Salvato read to them describing how they learned to bend wood for all types of items, made boats by hollowing out wood and discovered it is easier to pull things rather than carry heavy loads.
Native Americans also made paints and dyes from things they found in nature, like fruits and vegetables. The students had the opportunity to see this in action as Mrs. Salvato provided them with strawberries, tomatoes, blueberries and other colorful items.
It was a great hands-on lesson for the girls and boys before leaving for their Thanksgiving break.
