PBE fifth grade students in Mrs. LoPresti and Mrs. Ponsolle’s class focused on Black leaders in our country and beyond, part of their Black History Month curriculum.
Students chose a Black leader in history and did research on them. The students learned about their background and accomplishments, then completed a form listing biographical information and three accomplishments for their chosen leader.
The students chose accomplished Black leaders like Katherine Johnson, the brilliant NASA mathematician; George Washington Carver, the agricultural scientist and inventor; Ruby Bridges, the brave face of integration in American schools; and of course Barack Obama and Michelle Obama, the country’s first Black president and First Lady; and many more.
Have a look at the students’ wonderful work as they focused their attention on the countless contributions of Black leaders in America and around the world.
