Members of the Pine Bush High School football team traveled to the district’s elementary schools to celebrate Read Across America Week. They read children’s classics to the younger students and had the opportunity to visit with some of their former teachers and administrators.
The younger students truly enjoyed their guest readers. They had the opportunity to ask them questions about high school and football.
This was the third year Coach Rich Ormsby organized this event, seeing the value in it for both the younger students and his team members, not to mention the teachers who got to see their former students.
National Read Across America Day falls on March 2, and is the birthday of Theodor Seuss Geisel, also known as Dr. Seuss, the children’s author and cartoonist. It is part of National Read Across America Week, an effort to shine the spotlight on the importance of reading, especially in younger children. time.
What a great way to encourage reading in our younger students!
