Pine Bush High School’s Math Team A is the DUSO (Dutchess-Ulster-Sullivan-Orange) Section B champions for the New York State Mathematics League!
Section B includes teams from Middletown and Fallsburg school districts.
The PBHS Math Team A includes Abraheim Ahmed, Lucas Broughal, Katelyn Diaz, Meghan Herbert, Julian Lazaro, Chelsea Ring and Joseph Rosploch.
Individually, Lucas Broughal ranked fourth in the DUSO league which qualified him for the state meet.
The Pine Bush High School Math Team consists of teams A and B. They are coached by Melanie Conklin and Corinne Griffin.
During the regular season, the students compete in three individual rounds – algebra I, geometry and algebra II – where their individual points count toward the team total and toward individual totals. Then there is a relay or group question that counts toward the total for the team only.
“Our questions are advanced level questions that often go beyond the level of the questions taught by the school curriculum,” said Ms. Griffin. “They answer these questions during a time limit and without a calculator.”
She said this is just the second year for the club in recent years. It was in existence years ago but hasn’t been for a long time.
Congratulations to our Section B champion PBHS Math Team! Great job!
