PBHS named School of Excellence by New York State Public High School Athletic Association

Pine Bush had 20 varsity teams earn the scholar-athlete team designation during the school year. To qualify for the School of Excellence Award, a school must have 75 percent of its varsity teams qualify and earn the scholar-athlete team award.

“I am extremely proud of our student-athletes who work diligently in the classroom as well as on the field,” said Mike Gillespie, the Pine Bush athletic director. “Being part of a team is a great life lesson. In earning this School of Excellence award, our student-athletes have met the challenge of being among the best academically in New York State.”

According to NYSPHAA, the purpose of the School of Distinction and School of Excellence Awards is to unite varsity coaches in challenging their teams to achieve a statewide academic honor. This year, 86 schools earned the School of Distinction Award and 148 schools earned the School of Excellence Award.

“The School of Excellence and School of Distinction Awards highlight the best student-athletes in New York State”, said Dr. Robert Zayas, NYSPHSAA Executive Director. “For 234 member schools to be honored for their commitment to academics as well as athletics is a testament to the outstanding leadership and student-athletes we have in this state.”
