Madelyn Loennecker was a first-time donor at the Pine Bush High School blood drive on Nov. 2. Madelyn said her veins were small but it really wasn’t a problem donating her pint of blood. “I’d definitely do it again,” she said.
Across from Madelyn was her twin brother, Joseph, just getting ready to donate his pint of blood. Joseph had donated last year for the first time and said it’s not so bad.
The Loenneckers were two of 70 students and staff members who signed up for the blood drive, organized by the district nurses and the Pine Bush High School First Aid Club, with some help from other PBHS volunteers.
Giving blood is safe. The whole process takes about an hour, from the start of paperwork to finishing your snack. Donors must be at least 16-years-old with a signed parental consent form, must weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health. You may donate every eight weeks. And don’t worry – your blood replenishes within 24 hours! Just be sure to drink lots of water. The benefit is immense – one pint of blood can save up to three lives.
Great job all!
