PBHS students share what makes for a healthy relationship

As part of the district’s No Place for Hate initiative, students in Kara Sprague’s Youth Empowerment and Sustainability Skills (YESS) class provided a workshop for all ninth-grade students this week on healthy relationships.

The student facilitators presented scenarios that are commonly faced by young couples: jealousy, possessiveness, violence and peer pressure. The underclassmen had to decide whether the behaviors were acceptable or unacceptable and talk about why.

Earlier this school year, the YESS students completed an eight-week workshop with Fearless (formerly Safe Homes) called Mentoring In Domestic Violence. They were certified to facilitate these workshops on healthy relationships.
