Pine Bush celebrates its diversity at ENL potluck dinner

It was an incredible evening at Pine Bush High School as students and family members in the English as a New Language (ENL) program gathered for the annual potluck dinner, celebrating the diversity of our district. This was the first in-person potluck since 2019 and the smiles on faces were an indication they were happy to be back together!

A man wearing a peach-colored baseball cap holds a little girl about 2 years old with dark hair. She is wearing a pink jacket and is smiling.

Cathy Aller, ENL leader for the district, welcomed everyone to the celebration and introduced her ENL team. Resources on English classes, health care and other valuable community programs were available to families. The Pine Bush ENL program supports students who are learning to become proficient in English.

A group of women and one man stand together. One woman is holding a microphone. A woman next to her is smiling.

Students enjoyed playing games, many geared toward English proficiency, as well as having their faces painted. They colored pictures and had a great time together.

An elementary-age girl with long dark hair, wearing a light purple shirt, smiles. She has a large butterfly painted in orange and yellow and black on her face.

A family of five sit at a round table with a green tablecloth on it. The elementary age girl on the right has long dark hair and is wearing a black and white striped shirt ad a white mask. The woman next to her is smiling. There is an elementary age boy next to her giving a peace sign and wearing a black mask. A man is next to him, wearing glasses and a dark shirt. He is smiling and holding a young child.

When it was time to eat, there was so much from which to choose! Families brought a favorite homemade dish native to their country of origin to share, everything from appetizers to desserts. The selection of food was incredible, with dishes from more than a dozen countries!

A steady stream of adults come in through the door, each carrying a covered dish of food.

A long table with many containers of food on it. There are people lining each side of the table getting food.

There was so much laughter, camaraderie and encouragement in the room. It was pure joy.
