Pine Bush High School students who are at least 15 years old and looking to get their learner permit have something to cheer about. While others have to make an appointment at the local Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) and possibly wait months, Pine Bush High School students can take their learner permit test right here at the high school, thanks to Principal Aaron Hopmayer and School Resource Officer Patrick Swayne.
Be advised that this appointment is for your learner permit written test only. You will still have to do a permit transfer with DMV. However, this new system will significantly reduce your wait time, possibly by months. You must make an appointment with your county DMV after you pass your written test at the high school. Step-by-step instructions will be provided when you pass your written test regarding the process for obtaining your actual permit. (You can take the written test at 15 but you must be 16 or older for your actual DMV appointment).
Only one student will be scheduled to take the test at one time. Officer Swayne or Mr. Hopmayer would verify the student’s identity, age and residence through our SchoolTool system.
Anyone wishing to get more information about taking the learner permit test at the high school may contact Officer Swayne at sro.pbhs@pinebushschools.org, or call (845) 744-2031 ext. 3184.
The test is available in both English and Spanish. For those with testing accommodations, there is an audio button so the test can be read aloud to them.
