Principal Elizabeth Halsey Sproul came through on her promise!
Back in February, the EJR team launched its Reading Together program where teachers and families share reading aloud with their students/children. All students in every grade would read a book together with their teachers and families. Principal Halsey Sproul threw in some incentive: Everyone read the book and she would kiss a pig.
And that she did. She dressed the part too, complete with overalls, plaid shirt, boots and a straw hat!
Violet Mae was the adorable pig on the receiving end of Principal Halsey Sproul’s affections. And the kids just loved it.
The book they chose to read was The Lemonade War by Jacqueline Davies. It is about siblings who get along but have some real-life problems along the way. It’s something they can pretty much all relate to. EJR staff recorded the different chapters of the book so students could access them when they wanted.
The project was a tremendous success: great book, lots of reading aloud together, and a smooch with a pig. Can’t beat that!
