Purple Up for Military Kids is celebrated at Crispell

Crispell was awash in purple Wednesday, in honor of Purple Up For Military Kids Day.

Four adults, two on each side of a sign, stand and smile. All are wearing purple shirts. The sign behind them says Crispell on the Rise Getting Better Together.

Many staff and students wore their shades of purple to honor the students whose families are or were  part of the military.

Principal Stephen Wilder, himself a former Marine, wanted to make the day special for the Crispell students with military families. A special pizza lunch was catered by our School Nutrition Department for the 16 students and Mr. Wilder spoke about the different military branches. He opened the floor to the students and many shared their experiences and were proud to be a part of their military families.

A group of seven middle school kids stand together smiling. They are holding plates with pizza on them and behind them is a table with cookies and salad.

Everyone was greeted by Diana Bowe in a splash of purple at the front desk. Our counselors all wore their special Purple Up shirts, specific for the day. The front office was purple at every turn. Many teachers, staff and students showed their support with purple clothing, backpacks, hair accessories and more. It was a small but meaningful way to show support for our students.

A woman with dark hair pulled back smiles, wearing a light purple shirt.

Why purple? Purple is the resulting color when you combine the colors representing all the branches of our military: army green; air force, navy and coast guard blue; and marine red. We are stronger together!
