Second grade students learn the importance of community

Alicia Parker’s second grade class at Pakanasink had a unique assignment recently. They learned about community.

A group of five elementary students sit and stand around a table filled with Legos as they build things

The students worked on the project both at home and at school. They wrote about their home community, took photos and drew pictures of the places in their local communities or neighborhoods. They each produced a report about their particular community.

Two elementary girls, one wearing red and the other pink, build with Legos.

Collectively, they worked to create one large community – all made out of Legos. Their group community and individual reports are on display in the school’s showcase.

A display case with a red background has a lego city on the bottom and more than a dozen papers hanging on the three walls.
