Sixth-grade students, parents get to know Crispell

It was so good to see parents and students in the Crispell gym Wednesday afternoon for the sixth-grade orientation. Students were excited as they learned about clubs and activities, met teachers and counselors, and went on a scavenger hunt through the building.

“We are in the business to build better humans,” said Principal John Boyle to the parents gathered. “These three years are the most formative time of growth for our kids.”

He encouraged parents to be involved – “the Crispell PTO is new and improved and an essential part of our building” – and said students will always have homework, even if it’s just reading.

There are 12 after-school clubs available for students, many were represented in the cafeteria with student members on-hand with advice, including the Students Making a Difference Club, Interact Club, Art Club, Multi-Cultural Club and many more. There is something for everyone.

A young middle school girl, with shorts and a tank top, dark hair pulled back into a ponytail, talks to two people at a table. The people at the table are getting volunteers for their Students Making a Difference Club.

There are even activities during the summer with the summer academies – STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math), human rights and agricultural.

A group of three middle school students all have yellow paper and pencils. One, with a blue short-sleeve shirt and long blonde hair, writes on the paper as she leans it against a blue wall. The other two students stand next to her. One is a boy with a red shirt and very short dark hair, the other is a girl with long dark hair pulled back in a ponytail, wearing a white shirt.

“Please let us know what we are doing right and please let us know what we are doing wrong,” Mr. Boyle told the parents. “Communication is key.”

Students begin the school year on Thursday, Sept. 1.
