Snow! Snow! And more snow!

Snow! There certainly has been lots of it around. At Pine Bush Elementary, Molly Terpening’s first grade students were very busy writing about snow and reading lots of fiction and non-fiction books about winter and snow. She decided to complement her literacy instruction with science by having her students – both in class and at home – create snow.

“We used baking soda and white conditioner to make the snow,” said Terpening. “Each child got a cup to mix the two ingredients. We also made snowflakes with borax and pipe cleaners over our Google meet. That was well received by the kids and their grown-up helpers at home.”A boy wearing a mask and a gray sweatshirt rolls his homemade snow in his hands.
