‘Snowmen at Night’ comes to life at PBE

The third, fourth and fifth grade classes at PBE worked on a great project before the winter break! They turned the upstairs hallway of their school into a winter wonderland!

An older elementary-age boy draws a smile on a 3-D snowman made of plastic bags.

An older elementary-age girl, wearing a gray long-sleeve shirt, a mask and glasses, reaches up to paint the eye of a snowman on blue paper hanging on a wall.

Using the book “Snowmen at Night” as their inspiration, the students recreated the pages of the book, which detail what snowmen do when the sun goes down and kids are asleep. They drink ice cold cocoa, take part in snowman races, throw snowballs, sled and even play baseball!

An older elementary-age girl points to the ceiling where paper snowflakes are hanging from string. There are others in the hallway looking up.

Two older elementary age girls put paper snowflakes onto a bulletin board. The board shows a snow hill with snowmen coming down on sleds. The girls are wearing masks and kneeling to put the snowflakes on the bottom of the hill.

The students worked diligently building their scenes. They created snowmen in many different forms doing all the things illustrated in the book.

Younger elementary students point to a lifesize scene of snowmen. There is a blue background and the snowmen are made of large filled plastic bags. All kids have masks on.

When all was done, classes from pre-K through grade 2 visited. The older students took them on a walk through this wonderful book!

A younger group of elementary students listen as an older student reads a section from a book about snowman. Next to her is a bulletin board in blue with snow scene on it and the words to the story.

It was amazing for those who brought the story to life and exciting for the younger students who got to enjoy this terrific story. Have a look at the video of the wonderful story, Snowmen at Night, as told by the students of PBE.

Last year, the district invited guest readers from throughout the district to read some of their favorite winter and holiday books. We videoed the readings and posted on our website. They were a hit! Former Assistant Superintendent for Instruction Donna Geidel read “Snowmen at Night.” Click here to watch and listen to her reading.
