We will experience a near total solar eclipse in our location on Monday, April 8. This phenomenon will be created when the moon passes directly between the earth and the sun. The sun will become nearly fully blocked by the moon at approximately 3:25 p.m. on this day and it will become dark.
This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience in our location and we hope that everyone will take some time to go outside and safely experience this event.
REMINDER: All Pine Bush students have a half day on Monday, April 8. All after-school activities have been either canceled or rescheduled. Check with your advisor or coach for the details.
You must not, we repeat, MUST NOT look directly at the sun, the eclipse, or the moon during the event unless you are wearing approved eclipse glasses. Even when the sun appears to be fully covered, it is not safe to look directly at the event without approved eclipse glasses. Looking at the eclipse without approved eclipse glasses can result in permanent blindness. Attempting to use sunglasses, Blue Blockers or regular glasses will still result in blindness. Only approved eclipse glasses are safe.
You can still attain glasses in a variety of ways, but even without glasses you can enjoy the midday darkening caused by the blockage of the sun; just don’t look directly at the sun, the eclipse or the moon.
