After 14 days of instruction, physical challenges and guest speakers, 93 students graduated from the Pine Bush Leadership and Law Academy on Friday, July 15.
This academy is a partnership between the district, the Town of Crawford Police Department and the US Army. Students learned from a variety of instructors and guest speakers, coming from various industries, law enforcement agencies, the school district and government, including Orange County Legislator Robert Sassi, New York State Assemblywoman Aileen Gunther and New York State Senator James Skoufis.
In addition to their full day work load centered on law, economics and government, many of the students who attended the academy, which is the largest of the five academies held at Pine Bush this summer, came at 6 a.m. to work out before the day began. This was optional yet many did it.
Principal Aaron Hopmayer noted the dedication of the students who gave up three weeks of their summer to participate in this rigorous academy.
“You have distinguished yourselves,” he told the group, along with their friends and families. “This academy has helped bring out the best in you. You have pushed yourselves and achieved much in these few weeks. Be proud of yourselves. I am certainly proud of you, as is everyone here.”
