Superintendent Brian Dunn honors long-time employees, brings encouraging messages as we begin the school year

Eighty-five Pine Bush Central School District employees were acknowledged Tuesday at the district convocation for their years of service to the district marking 10, 15, 20 25 and 30 years.

Two district employees – Lisa Andryshak, a kindergarten teacher at Pakanasink Elementary School, and Kellie VanHaaster, a school-related professional at Circleville Elementary School, were honored for 30 years of service to our district.

“We thank all of these dedicated employees for the excellent work they do for our students and our district,” said Superintendent Brian Dunn.

The convocation, which kicks off the school year for staff, was done at each building. Dunn, Assistant Superintendent for Instruction Amy Brockner, Assistant Superintendent for Business Joseph Lenz, Director of Special Program Terrilyn Cohn and Interim Executive Director of Human Resources Mary Ann Wilson traveled to each of the seven schools in the district to welcome all staff members back for the 2022-2023 school year.

Mr. Dunn introduced himself as he begins his first year as district superintendent. He gave a state of the district recap and commended staff on the culture he has found here at Pine Bush – the strong pride of place, their ownership of results and the student-centered education provided.

He challenged staff to meet new goals for the district, which include an increase in student academic proficiency, improving student attendance, reducing code of conduct violations and supporting an equitable education for all students.

As we have all done over the past few years, Mr. Dunn had to pivot at a moment’s notice at the second stop of the day – Pakanasink Elementary School. As the group left CVMS, a fire alarm rang at the buildings. All PAK staff members were inside the building and had to evacuate. Mr. Dunn gave his introduction, awarded longevity pins, and brought his message to staff outside in the parking lot, while waiting for the fire department to come and give the all clear. It was seamless, and memorable!

At every stop, Mr. Dunn encouraged all to be their very best for their students.

“We are 100 percent for our students,” he said. “Let’s open arms and open doors every day.”
