The Crispell Olympics have begun!

Crispell’s annual multi-week Olympic event kicked off on Friday, March 4, with the opening ceremonies, an exciting event for all.

The parade of nations was a highlight for the spectators, as those representing the 30 nations carried the country’s flag and even dressed the part, in some cases. Crispell SRO Chuck Kelly led the parade carrying the Crispell torch.

Over the next five weeks, students will compete in both academic and athletic events. They will research different countries, learning pertinent facts about them and compete in trivia contests. There is even a door decorating contest!

A classroom door decked out in yellow and blue like the flag of Panama There are green decorations all around the door.

Athletically, events such as cornhole, tug of war, kick ball, hockey and ski jump (on the Wii game console) will keep our athletes in the Olympic mood.

Four middle school students in a gymnasium carrying the flag of France. They have it on their shirts too. And some are dressed as Frenchmen, with berets and mustaches.

This event brings the whole building together, according to Principal John Boyle, who emceed the event. Kindness is a key component in this Olympics and we celebrate unity, Assistant Principal Chris Mummery added. Of course, there is a medal ceremony at the conclusion so there is that competitive element involved.
