A certain magical nanny popped in at Circleville Middle School in February as the drama club presented Mary Poppins Jr. at the Circleville Middle School auditorium.
The musical is based on the stories of P.L. Travers and the Walt Disney film.
Directors Jennifer Wagner and Nina LaConte brought 1910 England to life on the Circleville Middle School stage. The Banks family at 17 Cherry Tree Lane was in need of a nanny. Several had come and gone but this new one is different. Her name is Mary Poppins. Played by seventh grader Kiera Masci, Mary uses a combination of magic and common sense to help bring the family together. Dane Gentles, also a seventh grader, played jack-of-all-trades Bert, a long-time friend of Mary Poppins and sympathetic friend to the Banks children. Sixth graders Anna McLoughlin and Miles Terranova played Jane and Michael Banks, the children who take Mary’s sunny disposition and try to bring it to their distant parents.
The show was a huge success, with large crowds at each of the performances.
