The Pumpkin Run at PAK is a smashing success

Students at Pakanasink Elementary School had an amazing new event happen last week. On Thursday, Oct. 31, their first ever Pumpkin Run took place!

It was a beautiful warm day for it, too. Students from grades 3, 4 and 5 were invited to participate in the four-lap race around the soccer field. Students were advised by their phys ed teachers Alyssa DiMaio and Stephen Distefano to pace themselves for the one-mile distance.

Each grade had its own race and was cheered on by their classmates, parents and guardians who stopped by and other classes that came out to enjoy the gorgeous day.

Each student got a popsicle stick to show each lap completed. When they completed their final lap, they handed in their popsicle sticks. The top three boys and girls finishers in each grade received medals and prizes.

Coaches DiMaio and Distefano were overwhelmed by how many students signed up for the race! Such great participation! Everyone was celebrated for their efforts, including those who walked an extra lap to accompany their classmates across the finish line!

“Congratulations to all participants in our 2024 PAK Pumpkin Run,” said the coaches. “It was an amazing day!”
