“The World According To Humphrey” has EJR students excited about reading

The big read is on at EJR!

All classes at EJR are reading The World According to Humphrey, a book by Betty G. Birney. They are reading chapter by chapter together, with some chapters read in class and some at home.

Four elementary students are sitting on the floor and looking up. In the center is a cage with a hamster in it. They are all smiling. One has a mask on.

Humphrey appeals to readers in the elementary school age group as he is a delightful little hamster that lives in a school classroom. On weekends he gets to go home with different students. He has the best life! He learns to read and write but also he encourages the humans he is involved with, teaching them some lessons too!

A group of nine elementary students, all wearing masks, look at a small cage with a hamster in it.

Each family received a copy of the book along with a reading calendar. Classes also got to meet Humphrey the Hamster on March 1 when the reading commenced!

Two elementary students sit at a table with a small cage with a hamster in it. There is a boy on the left smiling and a girl on the right, wearing a mask.

When the school has finished the book, there’s a special event happening – Principal Elizabeth Halsey-Sproul and Assistant Principal Anthony Muia will do the hamster dance! That’s something not to be missed!

A little boy with black hair and glasses is smiling holding a red book. Next to him is a hamster cage with a hamster in it.

So have some fun and read along with the kids!
