Third-grade students in Corrine Vertescher’s class at EJR are building bridges! In science class they are studying invisible forces and the topic covered building strong bridges.
The students were tasked with making a strong bridge using just two pieces of paper and a stack of books six inches apart. The students went to work to figure it out. They studied and discussed the possibilities. They used trial and error, adding all sorts of materials they found in the classroom. Some of the bridges held more than 100 unifix cubes plus several other materials, like water bottles and pencil cases!
Ms. Vertescher was very impressed with their projects and is sure there are future engineers right there in her classroom.
