Three middle school students from Pine Bush participated in the Junior Leadership Orange program this school year. Cailyn Best and Gavin Coleman from CVMS, and Madeline Doyle from Crispell recently completed the program.
According to the Leadership Orange website, the Junior Leadership Orange (JLO) program is a collaboration between the Orange County Youth Bureau and Leadership Orange for eighth-grade students from schools throughout Orange County. The students chosen for the program are identified as up-and-coming youth leaders. Formal training begins in the eighth grade. This youth empowerment program is designed to provide leadership skills, life skills, career exposure, and preparedness to youth who will potentially become the business and community leaders of the future. JLO effectively engages youth by challenging them to develop skills, gain critical awareness, and act as community advocates.
Throughout the academic year, participants convene once a month during school hours, embarking on educational excursions across the county. Led by instructors and facilitators representing various leadership sectors, students engage in interactive sessions covering crucial topics such as leadership development, education and college preparedness, the justice system, public speaking, volunteerism, diversity appreciation, fiscal literacy, and quality-of-life initiatives.
Congratulations to Cailyn, Gavin and Madeline for representing Pine Bush so admirably and graduating from this challenging and thought-provoking program! Bring those leadership skills to Pine Bush High School!
