Moira Roberts and Laura Bronson’s third-graders celebrated their writing and drawing with an author’s day! The students’ writing was about small moments in their lives – they wrote about cookies, a crazy afternoon, a trip to the hospital, getting stitches, a fun Thursday, and much more!
The students shared their stories with their classmates and teachers, with much enthusiasm and pride! Their classmates had great support for each other, listening attentively and showing much encouragement.
There were a few special guests in the classroom – some first-grade students from Megan Collins and Laura Bronson’s class. The first-grade students brought some of their own writing, one sharing with the class. Ms. Roberts and the third-grade students were so impressed by their writing!
In addition to their writing, each student created artwork for their book’s cover. The class voted on the best artwork and presented the winner with their very own Caldecott Award. The Caldecott Medal was named in honor of 19th-century English illustrator Randolph Caldecott. It is awarded annually by the Association for Library Service to Children, to the artist of the most distinguished American picture book for children.
On top of all that, the students were encouraged to ‘dress to impress’ for this very special day. They didn’t disappoint!
It was a wonderful day to celebrate the students, their evolving writing and drawing skills, and the camaraderie they have with each other.
