The sun was shining, the day was young,
PBE students couldn’t help but have fun.
To the high school they came, eager to learn,
Play games, eat snacks, everyone gets a turn.
Today is the day! Dr. Seuss we celebrate,
So brilliant, so clever, his work is first rate.
The children sat quietly, getting what they need,
The message today: Read, read, read, read, read!
You guessed it! If it’s March 2 (or March 3 in this case), we are celebrating reading and everything Dr. Seuss. National Read Across America Day, also known as Dr. Seuss Day, focuses on reading, especially for our youngest students.
Kindergarten students at Pine Bush Elementary were the guests of honor at Pine Bush High School at this annual celebration.
Students in Leeann Noonan’s Family and Consumer Science and Human Development classes volunteered to make snacks, create memory games and puzzles, and to read to the young learners, all with the Dr. Seuss theme.
Allison Senor, a senior, read The Cat in the Hat to Lori Malara’s class, the first of the morning at the event. She was a natural, getting the students involved in this timeless story and asking them questions about what they would do if the Cat in the Hat came to their house.
Read Across America Day is a yearly observance inaugurated by the NEA (National Education Association) to commemorate the March 2 birthday of Theodor Seuss Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss. Dr. Seuss was an American artist, book publisher, animator, poet, a political cartoonist as well as an author. He is the beloved author of more than 60 children’s books.
