Pine Bush High School welcomed the incoming freshman class just a few days before the start of school. Freshman orientation is not just for the students but the parents and guardians too. As PBHS Assistant Principal Anna-Marissa Estep said, the transition to high school is exciting and nerve-wracking to all.
“The transition to high school is an exciting time and can be a little bit nerve-wracking,” Ms. Estep told the gathering of students and parents/guardians. “Our hope is that the information you receive tonight will help to allay some of your fears.”
Ms. Estep went over expectations for the year. The students received their schedules on the way in from the student volunteers, then had the opportunity to meet student representatives from the many different activities and clubs offered, as well as to hear about the athletic programs offered. The families could also take a self-guided tour of the building, finding their classrooms ahead of the big first day.
She reminded the students that their efforts matter from the start.
“I want you to know that your effort every day matters,” she said. “Your grades from now on will determine your GPA and can have an impact on your future goals, including admission to colleges, scholarship opportunities, and possibly even employment opportunities. Luckily, we have a whole school full of teachers, counselors, staff, and administrators to help and guide you on your journey.”
Interim Superintendent of Schools Amy Brockner talked to the group about the district’s 2024-2025 theme: One Team, One Mission. She explained that our team includes our dedicated teachers here to guide and support; our parents and guardians, whose support is essential by encouraging regular attendance and staying involved; our school staff that works tirelessly to ensure that your school experience is enriching.
“Now tell me this,” said Ms. Brockner. “Who am I missing? Students! Your role is crucial. Engage in your classes, attend school regularly and make the most of the opportunities before you.”
Ms. Brockner stressed the importance of good attendance.
“I can’t stress enough the importance of regular attendance,” she said. “It is essential for making the most of your high school experience. Every day you are present helps you grow and contributes to the overall success of our team.”
No one does it alone, she stressed.
“If you ever need help, don’t hesitate to reach out,” Ms. Brockner continued. “Asking for support is a sign of strength, and we are all here to help each other succeed.
“Let’s make this year exceptional by embracing our roles, showing up and working together,” she said. “Welcome to Pine Bush High School!”
