“We look to grow every single day.” That was the message from Circleville Middle School Principal Lisa Hankinson to the students, parents and guardians, and staff gathered at CVMS for the sixth-grade orientation on Aug. 22. “Our staff loves our kids.”
Ms. Hankinson said she was nervous the night before and couldn’t sleep with excitement. She asked the incoming sixth-graders if they are nervous about starting school on Sept. 5? Are they nervous that they’ll like their teachers or have someone to sit with at lunch or make new friends? Most of the students raised their hands with each question. “See, you’re not alone!” Ms. Hankinson noted.
Students listened attentively as they learned about scheduling, clubs and activities, were introduced to teachers and counselors, and got the low-down on how things work at CVMS.
Ms. Hankinson discussed Paper Tutors, the online, 24/7 tutoring system used in the district, which is free to families. Click here for more information about Paper Tutors. She talked about the dress code, which can be found in the CVMS handbook, and SchoolTool, which gives parents and guardians access to their student’s schedule, attendance and grades. You can find a step-by-step instructional video at the link as well as information about the parent portal.
Each student has their own Chromebook, which must be charged and ready to go each day.
There are many activities for students, including student council, Odyssey of the Mind, world language club, yearbook club, band, media club, drama, coding, Interact Club, STEAM club, multi-cultural diversity club and many more. CVMS is a Gold Star No Place for Hate school and participates in the Positivity Project, a character education project.
After a question and answer session and a snack for students to get them acquainted with cafeteria protocols, teachers and counselors gave tours of the building to all who wanted a peak before the start of school.
It’s an exciting time for all! See you on Tuesday, Sept. 5!
