YESS class spreads awareness and importance of violence prevention with Say Something program

Green was the color of choice last week at Pine Bush High School. The Youth Empowerment and Sustainability Skills class organized a spirit week, shining a light on the Say Something campaign, a program through Sandy Hook Promise. The program teaches students in elementary, middle and high school to recognize the warning signs of someone at-risk of hurting themselves or others and how to say something to a trusted adult to get help.

There were events throughout the week for students to learn more about the Say Something program, with members of the YESS class, which is taught by Kara Sprague, leading the way. Pine Bush High School students signed the Say Something banner, committing to notifying a trusted adult if they notice any concerning behaviors in their classmates. To show his solidarity, Superintendent Brian Dunn also signed the Say Something banner.

Another day, the students wore green as a sign of solidarity for violence prevention. There was face painting, pictures at the Say Something background and information being handed out, bringing attention to the importance of violence prevention in schools.

It is such an important mission for the YESS students to take on – violence prevention is key to a comfortable and effective learning environment.
